Types Of Visas In UAE
Labour Card: this is the type of work visa that will cover long-term employee assignments in the UAE.

Employment Entry Visa: this is something a worker is expected to get after arriving in the Emirates. This is valid for 60 days and is useful for people who are waiting for their work permit to be processed.
There are other types of visas that are issued depending on what the applicant wants like business visas, tourist visas, medical visas, transit visas, service visas, E-Visa for residents from GCC, and student visas.
UAE Employment Visa Rules
To work in the Emirates, people, as well as the companies that are hiring them, must follow these rules:
- A person must be 18 years of age, and there is no maximum age to get a job in the country.
- The company hiring that person must have a valid license in UAE.
- The company should not violate any rules placed by the Emirates.
- Work that is done by a person must correspond to the nature of the company.
These rules have been put in place by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
Foreign nationals who are seeking jobs in the Emirates are placed in three categories based on their skill set.
Category 1: a bachelor's degree is needed
Category 2: a post-secondary diploma in any field
Category 3: a high school diploma
What Are The Documents Required To Get UAE Work Visa?
Foreign national workers are expected to get the following documents to get a UAE work visa.
- A valid passport
- A photocopy of the passport
- Passport-sized photos
- An Emirates ID card
- Entry permit from the country's Ministry of Labour
- Results of vital medical screening
- Employer's company card (a copy of this document is enough)
- Company’s commercial license (a copy of this document is enough)
Workers must get a work permit to remain in the country while processing other documentation.
To Get UAE Work Permit
A work permit is an employment letter issued by an employer to the employee of a country. To get the work permit, people are expected to get the following documents:
- Work permit application that has been filled
- An employment contract or a job offer letter from the UAE-based company
- All the documents mentioned above step.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) oversees issuing of work permits for the UAE. MoHRE reviews the application and mentioned suggestions or demands the resubmission of documents if there are any. After the ministry issues the approval, the foreign worker's employer can download it from the website.

Initial approval of a new electronic work permit: AED 200 or INR 4,230.33
New electronic work permit approval:
Category 1: AED 300 or INR 6,345.50
Category 2:
- Level A: AED 600 or INR 12,691.00
- Level B: AED 1,500 or INR 31,727.51
- Level C: AED 2,000 or INR 42,303.34
Category 3: AED 5,000 or INR 1,05,758.35
Foreign workers above 65 years of age: AED 5,000 or 1,05,758.35 (all categories)
Time Taken For The Process
The processing of a foreign national's work permit can take as long as 5 working days after the completion of all the documents.
Work Permit Validity
A work permit is usually valid for 30 days, but it can be extended to another 30 days. This will give you enough time to get other documents like Residence Visa, a long-term labour card, and an Emirates ID. You can live legally with the help of a residence visa.
UAE Employment Visa Procedure
Once you get your work permit, you can start the UAE Employment Visa procedure. You must keep in mind that this procedure will start only after you come to the country. Therefore, you must get a work permit that is either 30 days or 60 days long.
After you come to the country, your employer must apply for a residence visa for you from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). After this application has been approved, the GDRFA will affix an Employment Visa to your passport. You will then get an Emirates ID and a Labour card. The Labour card informs the authorities that you have the authorization to work in the Emirates.UAE Residence Visas are issued for 1-3 years but they can be renewed depending on your work and decision to stay in the country. The renewal process is the repetition of the above-mentioned steps.
